CULINARY TOUR THROUGH NORTHERN ITALY

Join EVOO Cannon Beach Cooking School hosts, Bob and Lenore, on a CULINARY TOUR through the PIEDMONT REGION in Northern Italy

30th September – 6th October, 2012
ITINERARY:
Day 1 – Saturday 29th September
– You leave the USA and arrive in Italy the next day (Note the day you lose you gain on your return.)

Day 2 – Sunday 30th September – Arrival at Malpensa airport where we meet our tour guide. (Complete details to be decided) Travel by mini bus to our home-base for the week in time to settle into our rooms at the Agriturismo,  a rural farm where the family raises goats. That evening we enjoy a meet and greet wine reception and welcome dinner.

Day 3 – Monday 1st October – Our day will start with a pork meat workshop in one of the farms of the Ticino Park preserved area. We will enjoy lunch here, too. After some relaxing time at the farm we take our first cooking class making local dish traditions before enjoying them together for dinner

Day 4 – Tuesday 2nd October – We drive through a landscape of rice fields to the rice mill where we will have our risotto workshop, learning all about the cultivation of rice. We then follow the cook in the kitchen to make some tasty traditional recipes to enjoy for lunch. In the afternoon we take a stroll in the pretty town of Vigevano with its fortress and historical center. Dinner is on our own. Bob and Lenore will have dining suggestions; we may want to team up.

Day 5 – Wednesday 3rd October – Our bus takes us to the Langhe area in the Southern part of Piedmont where we will explore and sample its local products. First up, we partake in a local truffle workshop with some tasting, of course. Next, we visit the wine cellar and enjoy a wine tasting with more local products. A stroll in one of the pretty local towns will get us ready for our last visit of the day at a chocolate and torrone producer. Our goal is to learn the “secrets” of these regional goodies.  Dinner is back at the agriturismo.

Day 6 – Thursday 4th October – We join a farmer/artisan to learn the local techniques of cheese making followed by lunch. Back at the agriturismo we will enjoy some personal time before our dinner at the agriturismo.

Day 7 – Friday 5th October-We are going north for a panoramic drive around Lake Major. Here we explore one little lake town, and have personal time for lunch. We then join a local baker to make the typical pastries of the area, before we head back for our farewell dinner at our agriturismo.

Day 8 – Saturday 6th October – Our departure, already! Our bus will take us to Malpensa airport, but we’ll all have to depart in time to catch the earliest flight.

Tuition:
€2300* (current exchange rate at this writing 1.3) Total inclusive of 6 nights lodging; 6 breakfasts, all but 1 lunch and all but 1 dinner; tasting activities and admission where required; gratuity for our guide, bus driver, and our local vendors. *Price is given in EURO because it fluctuates depending on the exchange. Airfare is not included.

Terms: 25% non-refundable deposit is due on or before March 6, 2012. A personalized tour like this limits participation and is on a first come first serve basis.

Invitation: On Sunday, Apr 22, 2012, you are invited to meet with us in Cannon Beach at EVOO to get to know your travel companions and our tour guide, Paola. Our goal is to take care of any questions you still have. Bob is planning a little Italian repast, as well. This is not a requirement, but we hope you can join us for this pre-trip get together. Exact details forthcoming.

Trip Insurance: You are encouraged to secure your own travel and/or cancellation insurance. We recommend you speak to your insurance agent to get rider for emergency costs or penalties should something come up.
