CULINARY TOUR THROUGH SOUTHERN ITALY
Join EVOO Cannon Beach Cooking School hosts, Bob and Lenore, on a CULINARY TOUR through SOUTHERN ITALY (AMALFI & SORRENTO)

September 23rd – 29th, 2012
ITINERARY:
Day 1
– Saturday 22nd September – You leave the USA and arrive in Italy the next day (Note the day you lose you gain on your return.)

Day 2 – Sunday 23rd September – Arrival in Italy and meet with your tour director in Sorrento (the closest airport is in Naples; complete details to be announced). Travel by minibus to our home-base for the week, our 4 star hotel on a hills between the Amalfi and the Sorrento coasts. Views from every room!  In the evening we enjoy a meet and greet wine reception and welcome dinner.

Day 3 – Monday 24th September – We will start our relaxed morning with a nice cappuccino and some personal time to enjoy our fantastic location! Later we will go to a local farm where we will have a tasting lunch of traditional local products; we will learn about the local crops, lemons and other citrus and the way they are processed to make limoncello. In the afternoon our cooking class will capture us exploring local dish traditions before enjoying them together for dinner.

Day 4 – Tuesday 25th September – Our day will start with the visit of one of the oldest cheese maker of the area and after a hands-on experience we will enjoy a cheese tasting lunch. It will be time then to visit a local mill, to learn about the evolution of the olive pressing systems and taste some olive oil. Later in the evening we will go up in a panoramic road to reach a special historical property where we will have to work for our dinner once again! This time making Pizza, but not just any pizza—this is Napoli where they wrote the book on pizza!

Day 5 – Wednesday 26th September – We are going back in time with a tour of Pompeii’s archeological site, as we imagine this city when it was thriving with life. We visit the now restored vineyards and gardens before heading to a wine producer on the volcano, Mount Vesuvius. We enjoy a tasty snack with their wines. On the way back we will stop and visit one of the historical pastificio (pasta maker) to learn local techniques of pasta making from the inventors of pasta! Dinner is on our own, and Bob and Lenore will have suggestions. We may wish to go team up together.

Day 6 – Thursday 27th September – Departure to the coast through a panoramic drive on the Amalfi road which will fill our eyes with breathtaking views! We will visit a small town where they have been producing fish products for centuries. Some free time will allows us to enjoy the locals in a personal way, and then it will be time to head back to our next “school” for a fish cooking class preparing our dinner!

Day 7 – Friday 28th September – A relaxed day start will see us visiting a local Limoncello producer to learn about different way of making this re-known drink, tasting will follow of course! Some free time in Sorrento will give everybody a chance to experience the Napolitan way!  Our Farewell dinner will close this relaxing day.

Day 8 – Saturday 29th September – Our departure, already! Our bus will take us to Naples airport, but we’ll all have to go to catch the earliest flight.

Tuition: €2250* (current exchange rate at this writing 1.3) Total inclusive of 6 nights lodging; 6 breakfasts, all but 2 lunches,  all but 1 dinner;  tasting activities and vendor experiences; and gratuity for our guide, bus driver, and our local vendors. *Price is given in EURO because it fluctuates depending on the exchange.  Airfare not included.

Terms:  25% non-refundable deposit is due on or before March 6, 2012. A personalized tour like this limits participation and is on a first come first serve basis.

EVOO Invitation: On Sunday, Apr 22, 2012, you are invited to meet with us in Cannon Beach at EVOO to get to know your travel companions and our tour guide, Paola. Our goal is to take care of any questions you still have. Bob is planning a little Italian repast, as well. This is not a requirement, but we hope you can join us for this pre-trip get together. Trip Insurance: You are encouraged to secure your own travel and/or cancellation insurance. We recommend you speak to your insurance agent to get rider for emergency costs or penalties should something come up.
